More Sinatra Movie News

Last year, Martin Scorsese was set to make a biopic about Ole Blue Eyes and there was lots of talk about who would play Frank in the film.

Today, it was reported that in a different movie (The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog) George Clooney would play Frank to Angelina's Marilyn Monroe. Clooney makes sense to portray Sinatra mostly based on the "cool" factor. At first, I thought AJ would be awful, but after letting it percolate for a bit I think she could be great. Those sultry lips and everything else make her a powerful sex symbol that could definitely embody Monroe. Plus, the movie focuses on Monroe's final years and Jolie has the acting chops for such a role.

Happy Birthday Frank

If he were still alive, Frank Sinatra would be 94 years old today. I'm convinced he would still have a Camel hanging out of his mouth, a glass of Jack with four ice cubes in his hand, and be the biggest bad ass in whatever room he chose to walk into. With the Beatles and Elvis, Frank is the type of icon that will be imitated until the end of time and never equaled. I regret not liking him when I was really young because then I would have MAYBE had a chance to see him perform live when I was five or something. The closest I'll ever get is seeing Tony Bennett in 2002 in AC and hearing his tell stories about knowing Frank. Here are some of my favorite Frank songs and items:

1) "Fly Me to the Moon" -- I think his best song.

2) "You Make Me Feel So Young" -- Great song, not the cest version but I always love the last 20 seconds or so of this song.

3) Phil Hartman as Frank with one of the best lines ever: "You don't scare me, I got chunks of guys like you in my STOOL!"

Orange and Blue

This article analyzes the colors in movie posters and discovered that orange and blue are used a ton. The article mentions that this trend is seen a lot since "orange/blue just so happens to be the most common set of complementary colors because blue is 'cool' and orange is 'enthusiastic' and 'energetic.'" Being a Cuse fan, I love this. It's right up there with ole Blue eyes saying "orange is the happiest color."

Now, if only the football team could get it's act together like their hoops counterpart.....

Who's Gonna Play Frank??

I loved the news this week that Martin Scorsese is set to make a biopic about one of my favorite celebrities of all-time: Francis Albert Sinatra.  Even better is the talk about who will play the chairman of the board on the big screen.  Of course, huge stars like Leo and Depp have been thrown around to take on the role, but a random poll in People Magazine has a 5 person list that includes Robert Pattinson from Twilight and Joe Jonas.  WTF!??!?!  There would be riots if some half-assed celeb got the chance to play Ole' Blue Eyes.

A good compilation of candidates can be found on Rolling Stone.  Here's my top 5 choices:

1) Leo DiCaprio - I still think he's severely underrated for how talented he is, and it is already proven that a Scorsese/Leo collaboration is good thing.  His portrayal as Howard Hughes is magnificent and the con man feel of "Catch Me If You Can" kinda works with Sinatra.

2) Johnny Depp - He is consistently one of the biggest movie stars in the world and would bring an excellent aura of importance to playing Sinatra, but he doesn't have the full charm of Frank that Leo does.

3) Sean Penn - Obviously, he's a little older but I think he has a good look for the older Sinatra. (who knows even what years of Sinatra's life this movie is going to cover).  With Benjamin Button technology out there, making Sean look younger for early life stuff would not be a problem.   Plus, he's got the acting hardware to back this choice up.

4) Edward Norton - Maybe not to the most likely choice, but the guy has wonderful acting chops.  Also, he's been doing too many random projects lately and needs something like this back in his wheelhouse.

5) DARK HORSE ALERT:  Chris Pine - Fresh off Star Trek, this guys has a PERFECT look for Frank.  He's the only lesser-known star that I think could actually pull this off.  If the star power isn't there, the look and feel needs to be authentic and I think would be with this guy.
